Cabo

Several of us just got back from a long weekend at Cabo Alpha. Jerry was a wonderful host as always, even taking us out on the town the last night. But it wasn't all play. We spent several hours every day to reflecting on how we could improve our Alumni Association. All in all, it was a great time.

Next dinner, now with culture!

Dear Brothers,

Since it's been so very, very long since last we saw each other, this dinner will be pretty low key. We can gossip about who did what at Founders' Day.

Also! Many of you know Lylie Fisher, wife of Nick Bourke (Cal Beta '96). You may not know that she is an artist. She's hosting an exhibition of her works on Thursday. Her project mixes particle physics and art. They are based on bubble chamber experiments done in the 1960's. There is an example and directions below. Please join us at the Stanford Linear Accelerator.

Thursday 3/1-

Lylie's art exhibition at 5pm
SLAC, building 48.

SVAA Dinner at 7:30pm
The Dutch Goose (since it's practically nextdoor to SLAC.)
3567 Alameda De Las Pulgas
Menlo Park, CA

More about Founders' Day

Eric was more eloquent that me:

Brothers,

Thank you for coming to Founder's Day Dinner 2007! We have once again set a record for alumni attendance. Evidently, the event has grown in popularity to the point where people are willing to travel long distances to join us - Andrew Schwartz came in from LA, and Nick Hsu flew all the way from New York City!

Our speaker was Paul Wineman, National Vice President. He gave a lengthy and heartfelt speech encouraging alumni to get more involved with the actives. They need our support, and even a small investment like having lunch with an undergraduate once per quarter can have a lasting impact on their lives. I will do my best to promote more events which include the undergrads. You can expect some informal active/alumni barbecues in the future.

There are so many things to love about big events like this. But if there's one thing I don't like, it's not having enough time to catch up with everyone.

On that note, please send me more alumni news for the newsletter! Remember to include your initiation year, email address and pictures, if you desire. I've received several news updates already, and I'm very surprised by the number of recent engagements, marriages, and newborns. We may not have enough room for so many pictures of cute baby Phi Psi's!

Thanks again,

-Eric...

SF Beer Fest volunteering

In keeping with at least the litteral sense of our motto, "The great joy of serving others", I'm once again organizing guys to volunteer at the SF Beer Fest on April 28th. We'll be working through OneBrick, a Bay Area volunettering organization.
I'll send out more information when OneBrick opens their signup. It's a popular event (suprise), so be ready to jump on it.

Last Saturday was another great Founders Day evening. Almost 100 brothers were in attendance at the Stanford house. A good time was had by all.
