Next SVAA dinner is Thr, July 9

Brothers and Ladies,

I'm avoiding the first Thursday in July because it's next to a holiday weekend and some people (like me) could be out of town.  So how about German food on July 9?  This place is supposed to be the best German in the bay area.  I realize this is a bit far from our usual stomping grounds, but I think you'll find it's worth it.  I can't wait to try the schnitzel.

Thursday, July 9, 7:30pm

Teske's Germania Restaurant & Beer Garden

255 N 1st St
San Jose, CA 95113

RSVP!  I'll make a reservation for us.

Stanford Alumni Induction Ceremony on Fri, June 12 [1 Attachment]

Thank you, alumni, for helping throw a pretty impressive Alumni Induction Ceremony at Stanford a couple weeks ago.  I think the parents and new alumni had a great time.

And please welcome the new alumni!  I just finished adding them to the email list.

Proud to be a brother,

-Eric...

Next Southbay SVAA dinner - Tues March 17

Well kids, here is what people have suggested:

Fibbar Magee's
156 S. Murphy Ave
Sunnyvale, CA 94086
map
Tomorrow, Tues, March 17 7:30pm

It is not possible to make a reservation for tomorrow since it's St. Patty's Day.  Let's just meet there, and we'll grab a table when enough people show up.  If the place is impossibly busy, we may try one of the other Irish pubs on the same street, or give up entirely and get Thai or Mediterranean instead.  We'll play it by ear.

Call my cell to see if the plan has changed:  650 - 814 - 4364

Or, better yet, RSVP and I can call you if plans change.  So far, I've heard from:

Me
Brad
Jenn
John
Marisa
Justy (I'm assuming)

Alumni,

The dates for the Cabo trip have been settled.  Our group is going to join the UC Davis alums on April 23-27.

To sign up - Email me and Reggio Hearn to let us know you're going.  Then buy your plane tickets ASAP!  (Airport code for Cabo is "SJD".)  Flights from San Jose seem to be about $400 right now.

Deadline to sign up is March 15.

If you haven't been before, here is what to expect:
  • We stay at the property of a UCLA Phi Psi alum named Jerry Nelson.  It is an enormous and gorgeous property right on the beach.  Because of its size, it is commonly referred to as "the compound."  He allows us to stay there for free.  This may be the cheapest vacation you'll ever go on - Food and drinks at the compound are all free.  All you pay for is the plane ticket, cab fares, and eating out.  There are even loaner cars you can borrow to drive into town for the day.
  • You may bring a guest!  Bring your significant other.
  • You must have a passport.  Cabo is in Mexico, and Mexico is a different country, after all.
  • You're welcome to go for all 5 days.  Most people go for 3-4 days so they don't have to take too many vacation days.
  • If you went to Cabo as an undergrad, you should know that going as an alum is a much more relaxing experience. We will have some retreat stuff in the morning, but otherwise the rest of the time is free to relax in the pool, hang out on the beach, wander around town, etc.
  • For those who can't get enough details, I'm attaching the doc from the trip two years ago.  It has things like addresses and airport info.  Some stuff is probably out of date now, but you'll get the general idea.
  • The compound really is gorgeous.  Here are Sachin's pictures of the trip in 2005  -  All pics  -  favorite1  favorite2  favorite3  favorite4  favorite5

Next Southbay SVAA dinner - Tues March 17

Since I've missed the boat on planning the SVAA dinner on the first Thursday of this month (which is today), and since I'm on vacation next week, let's have the next SVAA dinner on Saint Patrick's Day!

SVAA dinner
Tues, March 17 at 7:30pm
Saint Patrick's Day!
Location ???

If I get ambitious, I'll try and find an Irish pub where we can get shepherd's pie and the like.  However, it may be difficult to get reservations for a large group on Saint Patty's Day.  The fall back will be a place we can at least have Guinness, like the Dutch Goose or the Oasis.

For now, just put it on your calendar.
